You worked so hard to select all the details of your wedding day, from your outfits and accessories to your invitations and florals. Your wedding detail flat lay photos are where they get their moment to shine!
Your photographer will often capture these photos right when they first arrive, which is typically when you’re getting ready. Having your details set aside ahead of time makes it easy to hand them right over to your photographer, so they can get to work while you enjoy your wedding morning.
You can get all of these items organized in the weeks leading up to your wedding, so they are ready to be photographed the day of. To help you prepare, the following is what I recommend including in your detail photos.
Start with your invitations, and not just the invite itself – include all of the pieces of your invitation suite. This may include the invite, envelope, RSVP card, detail card, stamps, etc. Include two copies if your invite has front and back designs. Secure them flat in a folder, envelope, or between two items in your detail box.

Stationary goes beyond the invitations. Do you have programs, menus, or place cards you’d like photographed? Personal items like wedding morning letters, cards, and vow booklets are great to include as well.
Your rings, of course! I recommend coordinating with your photographer to have both rings where the detail photos are happening, before being passed off to whoever is in charge of them for your wedding ceremony. Make sure to include your ring box if you’ve selected one.

If you are not getting ready in the same location of your wedding events, florals are something you may have to coordinate appropriate drop off time with both your photographer and florist. This includes florals you and your partner are wearing and/or carrying like your bouquet and boutonniere. It also includes loose stems from your florist. If you request “loose stems for detail photos” they will know exactly what you’re talking about and put together a small selection of florals from your overall wedding design to incorporate in your flat lays.

Think of the details you’re wearing – your veil, shoes, jewelry, tie, watch, cufflinks, etc.
Did you select a special scent for your wedding day? A new lipstick color? Perfume, cologne, and makeup make great wedding detail additions.

It’s time for your wedding outfit to have its moment! Your photographer will often take your wedding outfit for a photo of its own before you get dressed. Make sure your outfit is on a nice, clean hanger, especially if you’re picking it up from the dry cleaners before your big day.

You won’t want to leave out decor pieces, favors, etc., especially if they tie into the overall theme of your wedding day. Personalized decor, meaningful favors, cocktail napkins, and more can really tie the overall vibe of your wedding day back into your detail photos.

Don’t sweat it if you don’t include all of the items of this list! What’s most important is to select the details of your day that are special and meaningful to you, and your photographer will make to sure commemorate them.
